DEVIL BUDDHA

Inspired by the notion of duality, both internal, where thought and unthought (the subconscious) are in dialogue and the external, where thought and matter encounter one another.

Devil Buddha also represents my own duality – the love of the devil as symbolic of darkness, fear, life set in relationship to a counter-movement and my search for the light as symbolic of love, transcendence and answers within the polemic of East and West.

I have visualised Devil Buddha as a sound experience in its most quintessential form – an ur-form  – a kind of black hole inside me working in reverse. By this I mean that what I experience, see, feel and hear is taken into this place, is received and then stretched, pitched, warped, reversed, sonically translated beyond recognition and sent back out.

I use an array of instruments to achieve this meta-translation/meta-morphosis – samplers, dj decks, loopers, vocals, synthesizers, granulators, effects processors, guitars, etc. It is like being at the heart of darkness in its most essential form – a kind of duality of absence balancing on the edge of the void, almost falling in but pulling back at the last instance. This is what music allows me to do.

Devil Buddha Live is a ritual of sound. An experience where music becomes the body, the soul – a situation where it is possible to taste the frequencies existing in each of us, ones we rarely visit. I visualise the process as a chance to let yourself go to new strange places and possibly return.
